Going girlish??!!

They say, “Boys don’t cry”. Roger Federer cried buckets after winning the Australian Open this year. I saw a headline screaming, “Federer cried like a schoolgirl”. Even if we what to compare an emotional Federer to a kid, why schoolgirl? Why not schoolboys?

Yesterday the Holland lost to Portugal in the second round of FIFA World Cup. The same team that had played roughish football till then, bullying its opponents, went down to tears. The team had exhibited the so-called ‘manly’ way of playing football and yet wept at its loss.

And yeah... How could one forget Kapil Dev crying his heart out when he went Face to Face with Karan Thapar in national television? Nowadays, even the male characters in movies do not hesitate to shed tears. Are men not afraid of crying in public these days?

And they say, “Pink is girlish”. I see guys wearing pink with vengeance. Bollywood is painted pink now.

I guess the taste of the people has changed. There was a period when people liked watching only the macho characters played by the angry young man Amithab, Punjab-da-puttar Dharam paaji, Sunny paaji (Punjab-da-potha?) and their likes. Then came the chocolate heroes. And then came Shah Rukh Khan. Ever closely noticed his antics? Whatever it is, it is certainly nowhere near what is called ‘masculine’. Ever noticed Shah Rukh playing Babloo Chaudury in Duplicate? Somebody tell me what that was. Still, Shah Rukh is the undisputed King Khan of Bollywood.

I can give a good explanation for this phenomenon, it's just that you might start thinking I am crazy, because the explanation doesn't go with the lighter vein of the post :)

Anyways, I'll take the risk of being called crazy for the general good of mankind :p

The reason why men and women are different, can be traced back to the millions of years of evolution. Men were majorly responsible for going out into the woods and gathering food for their families and communities. This involved gathering plant based as well as animal based food. Understandably, this was quite a physical task to do, because of which men developed better physical abilities, while their emotions remained pretty raw due to the excessive use of emotions in killing animals, battling, etc.

As compared to this, women generally stayed inside sheltered caves, etc., taking care of the young members of the families and communities as a whole. Because of this, they did not develop physical abilities as men did, while their emotions were far more refined and the ability to appreciate beauty and colours was far more developed in them as compared to men.

But since quite a few centuries now, a majority of men and women have been invloved in almost the same tasks. Also that, men now pretty much remain in as comfortable shelters as women. Thus, naturally, over a period of time they will develop similar patterns as women. You would realise that how men generally are becoming physically weaker as compared to their predecessors, unless of course they work out in gym. But working out in a gym is only a technique to avoid that physical weakness, that would unless come naturally. Similarly, men now increasingly experience similar emotions as women.

The word metrosexuality has often been used in a derogatory way, but it is only a next step in the process of evolution. Increasingly, men will become like women, though it doesn't sound all that good because of our cultural and sociological upbringing, it is the truth. A few thousand or probably million years down the line, there will not be much difference between the two sexes, except probably the reproductive organs.

Interesting! I too can't stand it when I hear friends telling their sons "Stop crying! Are you a girl?" A friend made this observation once: Mothers teach their sons to effectively hide their emotions, yet they expect their own husbands to be more open in expressing their emotions!
Anyway whatever be the reasons, if men learn to express and share their feeling like women, it is much better for their mental health and also their heart.
I have also noticed this pink phenomenon. All macho men wearing them. But you still wont find a young boy wearing pink!!
