KANK revisited

Well... well... well... Seems the whole country has taken sides on KANK. You either love it or loath it, but you are not able to ignore it. I guess that is the triumph of the director. Well done, Karan.

Stumbled upon these clips of this particular episode of ‘We the people’. Thanks to NDTV and Youtube. It is a wonderful episode.

Part – 1
Part – 2
Part – 3
Part – 4
Part – 5
Part – 6
Part – 7
Part – 8
Part – 9

At 1:07 minutes of Part – 7, Shahrukh says that he doesn’t think that Dev and Maya would have lived happily ever after. That is exactly what I think. KANK is not about helpless people. Dev and Maya are not forced to go out of their marriages. They in fact opt to do so on their own. In reality, most of us would consider ourselves lucky to have a spouse like Rishi or Rhea. But Dev and Maya are exceptions. Dev is cynical and bitter to the extent of self-destruction. Maya is a dreamer. They can’t live happy with the way their lives are. They run behind illusions. They are sad people. They prefer to be sad. And they will remain sad for ever.

Like said at the conclusion of the discussion, KANK is just a point of view - a wonderfully filmed one. I believe that KANK will be considered a milestone in the future. It is a honest movie. Like most honest things, this too may look bitter. But, that doesn’t mean that the subject of the movie is unrealistic. We never like reality laughing at our face. We, as individuals or as a society, never enjoy our drawbacks being discussed.

Damn. Way am I getting serious? That too, over a movie? May be that again is Karan’s victory. I am not able to ignore KANK as 'just another movie'.

The point is – I adore KANK. I watched it twice.

I did not watch the movie - nor do I plan too. But I loved the story line. So I am with you on this one - "Like most honest things, this too may look bitter. But, that doesn’t mean that the subject of the movie is unrealistic. We never like reality laughing at our face. We, as individuals or as a society, never enjoy our drawbacks being discussed."

I agree wih ou that they could not have lived happily. Yes, but I feel Shah rukh's main prob was his wife was doing well in her profession, which he being a man could not accept. Remmember, Abhiman, where Amitabh also goes to another woman when Jaya becomes more succesful. Karan Johar neednt have got an excuse for Shah rukh Khan and make him limp. Prbbly because Karan Johar admires Shah Rukh and anted to give an excuse for his infidelity.

sakshi,
kank is a nice product - a nice blend of good theme, great performances, wonderful music and songs, sentiment, wry humor, melancholy, lots of heart warming moments,...

kavya,
obsessed with kank? hmmm... may be...

chitra,
i don't remember how abhimaan ends...
yeah. jealousy and helplessness is a dangerous combination.

somewhere KANK pinched me. maybe it did because it was too real, maybe it did because the two main characters were cynical about everything. i couldn't separate it with the fact that they broke their marriages to be with each other. i very strongly believe that marriages need lots of work and to give up this easily is a mockery of this great institutions, just my 2 cents.

TWICE?!

I found it overly dramatic at many places.. the well co-ordinated scenes and stuff.. But yeah, I guess.. everyone has likes and dislikes.. And you liked it to sit through it TWICE deserves an applaud! :-)

life lover,
yeah. marriage does need a lot of care and maintenance when both the partners respect it and wish to save it. what if one of them or both strongly believe that the marriage is a great mistake? these things happen...

sharon,
yeah. majority of people think that kank is a bakwaas. but still i find it genuine. may be i am getting too weird...
abhishek has got a plum role in kank.

basanti,
i would be surprised only if karan johar's movies are not overly dramatic :P
